Bass spinning and saltwater fly fishing
Independent charters is a Father and Son charter business, and we can offer Salt water fly fishing as well as spinning with light tackle for Bass.

With this type of fishing we offer a unique experience with light tackle, bass fishing in the surrounding waters off Clovelly are a perfect habitat for large bass.

Gullies kelp beds and a huge house size rocks not only make for spectacular scenery but also some heart stopping takes as well, you can expect other species such as mackerel, Pollock, garfish occasional black bream and sea trout, all prove to be great sport on light tackle.

We accompany the Mitchell 31 Mk 11 mother ship with a 4.3 metre inflatable which is fast and very manoeuvrable and is also fully licensed and insured, the inflatable is used in order to access the rugged shallows and secluded bays where the bass lurk and larger vessels dare not go, these areas are inaccessible by shore and rarely fished.

Having the mother ship in close proximity not only provides extra safety but is also a platform for the other anglers to fish from and is used for refreshments and lunches which you can either bring or we can provide if ordered in advance, ranging from sandwiches to fresh crab or lobster salads, for those who would like to indulge themselves we can also supply wines and champagne

All the above food and alcohol is an extra but we serve tea, coffee and cold refreshments whenever you would like which is inclusive of the price.

For this type of fishing there is a maximum of four persons. This means two anglers can be in the inflatable inshore fly fishing, or spinning and the other two anglers can be fishing off the Mitchell, alternating every two hours. A typical day starts at the picturesque village of Clovelly where parking is free at the fisherman's car park at 8-30am and arriving back at Clovelly harbour for approximately 17-30, spinning rods and reels can be hired, which are top of the range Shimano but not fly fishing tackle. Maximum take home is one bass per person and any bass over 6lbs must be returned as to help keep breeding stocks healthy, we also like to use barb less hooks.

All fishing trips are subject to sea conditions and sea states we normally ask our clients to phone the night before for an up date on the weather.

For a standard days charter for four persons for fly fishing or spinning the cost is £400.
